OAD Announces List of “Top 30 New European Restaurants in 2022”

In advance of announcing the full 2022 list of Top European Restaurants, Opinionated About Dining (OAD), the global restaurant review platform from Steve Plotnicki celebrating the best of the world’s culinary talent, has announced a list of the Top 30 New European Restaurants for 2022 based on reviews submitted by some of the most experienced diners in the world.

Desde 1911

This year’s Best New Restaurant is Desde 1911 in Madrid, Spain, the newest restaurant from the Garcia family who have operated the Pescaderías Coruñesas, their nearby fish shop, for the past 111 years. With a strong focus on the superb ingredients that the family sources, Chef Diego Murciego applies a combination of Spanish, French, Nordic and Japanese techniques to create an elegant culinary experience. Close behind at number two is fellow Madrid restaurant Smoked Room, a progressive Asador, with Antwerp’s Hertog Jan Botanic ranked at number three. 

UK restaurants in this list include The Angel at Hetton coming in at number thirteen, Santiago Lastra’s modern Mexican restaurant KOL at fifteen, with Victor Garvey’s Californian-inspired Sola and Edoardo Pellicano’s progressive restaurant Mana also included.

Steve says, “It’s great to see so many new restaurants debuting on the list, especially after such a turbulent few years. Now that travel is opening up worldwide, I felt that publishing a list of restaurants that people might not already know about would be a good way of helping people plan their culinary travels.”

OAD’s European lists include three categories; ‘Top 150’, ‘Highly Recommended’ and ‘Recommended’. There are eleven OAD lists in total spread across Europe, North America, Japan and Asia, including lists of the best Casual Restaurants, Classical Restaurants and Cheap Eats, which were announced last week. According to this year’s lists, the top European casual restaurant is Elkano in Getaria, Spain.

OAD was founded by Steve Plotnicki in 2003 as a restaurant blog through which he shared his global dining experiences with his readers. After amassing a large readership worldwide, Steve launched his first ever survey for his growing community in 2007, inviting them to recommend establishments both prolific and undiscovered. Since then, the results have been published each year and, since 2013, the OAD collaboration dinners celebrating its talented chefs have become a prestigious annual event. Previous chef lineups at OAD dinners across the world have included Alain Passard, René Redzepi, Albert Adria, James Knappett, and Merlin Labron-Johnson. Last year, OAD revealed its lists via livestream with guest presenters including Jeremy Chan, Ana Roš and Elena Arzak.
