Elena Arzak

    Elena Arzak who was chosen “the World’s Best Female Chef” in 2012, followed her father Juan Mari Arzak’s path who has won 3 Michelin stars 27 years ago and decided to be a chef. Restaurant Arzak entered the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list 13 times out of 14. Restaurant Arzak entered the list for the first time in 2003 ranking at 40th. It stayed in top 10 for the following 9 years, and in 2016, it was ranked 17th. Arzak entered to kitchen at the age of 11 and after she was graduated from the Hoatel Management School, she worked with Albert Roux at Le Gavroche in London. Before she reaturned to Spain and started working at the elBulli, she worked at La Maioson Troisgros, Carré des Feuillants, Vivarois in Paris and at Le Louis XV in Monaco with Alain Ducasse. She doesn’t discriminate traditional gastronomy and modern gastronomy however she emphasizes that modern gastronomy is based on traditional gastronomy. So that, every chef should care of this point in her opinion. She says “Modernism and globalization is important due to being innovative but every chef must proatect the self. Identity is the most important heritage for every person. Meathods can be modernized but it is important to stay connected with tradition”. Arzak believes that discovering new places, new restaurants and different cuisines expands our gastronomic horizon. She says that she enjoys visiting foreign countries and bringing their products to her kitchen to integrate in her menu.
